The Barge Inn Mural By Vince Palmer:

Artist Vince Palmer talks about his well known creation "The crop circle ceiling" at The Barge Inn, Wiltshire, sometimes knows as the "Sistine Chapel of Crop Circles".

Not many people have heard Vince talk about his work. Here you see him in a rare interview where he tells some secrets of what this work means.

A huge thanks to Matt Williams for making this gem of a video!

The Barge Inn at Honey Street in Pewsey Wiltshire is well worth a visit if you're ever in the area, said to be a mecca for crop circle enthusiasts, it is set in a beautiful location alongside the Kennet and Avon canal with a great view of The Alton Barnes White Horse.

The Green Man
On the ceiling of the 'Crop Room' is a large impressive mural that depicts the ancient monuments of Wiltshire - Stonehenge, Silbury Hill, Avebury and the White Horse. All are linked together with circles, swirls, and other symbols that have been spotted in local cornfields. The mural was painted by ex-local artist Vince Palmer.

Parts of the inn more resemble a research lab than a pub. Giant noticeboards in the pub's 'Crop Room' keep visitors up to date and there are numerous photographs, letters and diagrams everywhere. A huge map covered with coloured stickers details past and present crop circle sightings and the manager has transformed the place into a focal point for the curious hordes who descend on the pub each year.

It was in August 2010 that with the help of a substantial grant from the Big Lottery the local community purchased the lease of the much loved Wiltshire pub The Barge Inn Honeystreet.
Since that time with volunteer support from around the area and internationally the pub has had an internal facelift that has been welcomed and praised far and wide. The work was undertaken over a five week period which ended in a fantastic musical bash, ‘Honeyfest ’on the 16th April.
Polly Carson a volunteer director and local said, ‘We wanted and have achieved a freshening of the image of our special pub whilst retaining its uniqueness.  Coupled with a brand new menu we are continually receiving great complements.’
During the refurbishments a linking archway was built between the ‘croppie room’ and the main bar area. This unavoidably damaged the fantastic and famous ceiling Mural. Luckily the original artist Vince Palmer was in the country and was commissioned to repair and touch up the work.

Check out the Barge if you're in the area, I can't wait to go back for a visit in the summer!
